Today I took a long ride through downtown Austin. I have always wanted to take such a ride on a holiday when all the stores are closed and the streets are empty. I explored some of the streets that I dared not ride on at normal times, like Guadalupe from the University to where Lamar and Guadalupe join, 5th street from Mopac to Lamar or Barton Springs Road through Zilker Park.
It was a good ride, although I chickened out on several other sections I want to ride some time: ie. 360 from Barton Creek Mall to the Arboretum or a path from home to work. It was just too cold and that would have added too much time to the ride.
The temperate was 45 when I left and I'm sure it didn't change a whole lot. The sky was heavily overcast and the wind was out of the south probably about 5 MPH. Here is the official record according to Motionbased.
I sure need to do some stretching, the cold weather has my muscles real tight.
